I dwell in Possibility, sir, a fairer house than Prose, and I keep its windows small so the light burns brighter.

But I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world! Poetry should embrace multitudes, not hide behind a dash.

Tell all the truth, but tell it slant, Mr. Whitman; the soul selects her own society, then shuts the door on your crowd.

You lock your genius in a drawer while I sing the body electric in the sun, and posterity will hear which of us it remembers loudest.
